These tests were carried out on the oceanographic vessel Ram\u00f3n de Margalef.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"803\" data-end=\"1023\">\n<p data-start=\"803\" data-end=\"1023\">\n<h2 data-start=\"1030\" data-end=\"1071\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Albert Sans'; font-weight: normal;\"><strong data-start=\"1033\" data-end=\"1071\">TSI\u2019s Role in the SOST-INT Project<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3 data-start=\"1073\" data-end=\"1127\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Albert Sans'; font-weight: normal;\"><strong data-start=\"1077\" data-end=\"1127\">Structural sensing and data acquisition system.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1129\" data-end=\"1345\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">At <strong data-start=\"1132\" data-end=\"1139\">TSI<\/strong>, we were responsible for the <strong data-start=\"1169\" data-end=\"1252\">design and implementation of the structural sensing and data acquisition system<\/strong>, focused on the <strong data-start=\"1269\" data-end=\"1344\">structural and dynamic monitoring of ships under operational conditions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1347\" data-end=\"1374\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Our scope of work included:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1376\" data-end=\"1777\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li data-start=\"1376\" data-end=\"1493\">\n<p data-start=\"1378\" data-end=\"1493\"><strong data-start=\"1378\" data-end=\"1420\">Structural and dynamic instrumentation<\/strong>, aimed at monitoring the structural health of the vessel during service.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1494\" data-end=\"1641\">\n<p data-start=\"1496\" data-end=\"1641\"><strong data-start=\"1496\" data-end=\"1542\">Distributed data acquisition architectures<\/strong>, deployed in representative areas of the ship, including technical spaces such as the engine room.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1642\" data-end=\"1777\">\n<p data-start=\"1644\" data-end=\"1777\"><strong data-start=\"1644\" data-end=\"1714\">Communication systems specifically designed for naval environments<\/strong>, ensuring data continuity under complex operational scenarios.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1779\" data-end=\"1965\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The system was developed in accordance with the <strong data-start=\"1827\" data-end=\"1896\">applicable standards and requirements of Classification Societies<\/strong>, addressing both the structural and operational needs of the vessel.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1972\" data-end=\"2021\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42943 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/tsisl.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Barco-cubiertas-planos-1024x589.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"776\" height=\"446\" \/><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1972\" data-end=\"2021\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Albert Sans';\"><strong data-start=\"1975\" data-end=\"2021\">Monitored Structural and Dynamic Variables<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2023\" data-end=\"2112\">The project focused on a set of <strong data-start=\"2055\" data-end=\"2100\">critical structural and dynamic variables<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2114\" data-end=\"2374\">\n<li data-start=\"2114\" data-end=\"2183\">\n<p data-start=\"2116\" data-end=\"2183\"><strong data-start=\"2116\" data-end=\"2139\">Global ship motions<\/strong>, modelled considering the vessel as a beam.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2184\" data-end=\"2239\">\n<p data-start=\"2186\" data-end=\"2239\"><strong data-start=\"2186\" data-end=\"2238\">Vibration levels in structurally sensitive areas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2240\" data-end=\"2301\">\n<p data-start=\"2242\" data-end=\"2301\"><strong data-start=\"2242\" data-end=\"2300\">Dynamic phenomena associated with bow slamming impacts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2302\" data-end=\"2374\">\n<p data-start=\"2304\" data-end=\"2374\"><strong data-start=\"2304\" data-end=\"2335\">Localised and lateral loads<\/strong> acting on different areas of the ship.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2381\" data-end=\"2440\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Albert Sans'; font-weight: normal;\"><strong data-start=\"2384\" data-end=\"2440\">From Monitoring to Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM)<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3 data-start=\"2442\" data-end=\"2476\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Albert Sans'; font-weight: normal;\"><strong data-start=\"2446\" data-end=\"2476\">Advanced signal processing.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2478\" data-end=\"2683\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Data acquisition and processing logics were implemented using <strong data-start=\"2540\" data-end=\"2551\">LabVIEW<\/strong>, incorporating <strong data-start=\"2567\" data-end=\"2604\">selective data storage strategies<\/strong> that allow only structurally and operationally relevant events to be recorded.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2685\" data-end=\"2734\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Advanced signal processing capabilities included:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2736\" data-end=\"3017\">\n<li data-start=\"2736\" data-end=\"2801\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p data-start=\"2738\" data-end=\"2801\">Digital filtering, numerical integration and spectral analysis.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2802\" data-end=\"2876\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p data-start=\"2804\" data-end=\"2876\">Dedicated algorithms for the detection of significant dynamic phenomena.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2877\" data-end=\"3017\">\n<p data-start=\"2879\" data-end=\"3017\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Calculation of severity parameters such as <strong data-start=\"2922\" data-end=\"2929\">RMS<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"2931\" data-end=\"2945\">peak value<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"2947\" data-end=\"2963\">crest factor<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"2969\" data-end=\"3016\">Probabilistic Power Spectral Density (PPSD)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42879 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/tsisl.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Captura-de-pantalla-2026-01-20-154317-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"684\" height=\"481\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3024\" data-end=\"3057\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Albert Sans'; font-weight: normal;\"><strong data-start=\"3027\" data-end=\"3057\">Implemented CBM Strategies<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3059\" data-end=\"3182\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The results obtained enable the deployment of a <strong data-start=\"3107\" data-end=\"3181\">Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) strategy at two complementary levels<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3184\" data-end=\"3495\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li data-start=\"3184\" data-end=\"3312\">\n<p data-start=\"3186\" data-end=\"3312\"><strong data-start=\"3186\" data-end=\"3200\">Direct CBM<\/strong>, focused on operational monitoring and real-time detection of significant events through indicators and alarms.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3313\" data-end=\"3495\">\n<p data-start=\"3315\" data-end=\"3495\"><strong data-start=\"3315\" data-end=\"3331\">Advanced CBM<\/strong>, based on the use of onboard sensor data as inputs to structural models, enabling the analysis of the ship\u2019s global structural behaviour and lifecycle performance.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3497\" data-end=\"3774\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The overall objective of the project has been the <strong data-start=\"3547\" data-end=\"3632\">design and development of advanced digital tools for intelligent ship sustainment<\/strong>, integrating structural sensing, advanced signal processing and structural models, all validated under representative operational conditions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3497\" data-end=\"3774\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-42885 aligncenter size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/tsisl.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Densidad-espectral-TSI-SOST-INT-proyecto-1024x589.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"589\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3497\" data-end=\"3774\">\n<h2 data-start=\"3781\" data-end=\"3825\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Albert Sans';\"><strong data-start=\"3784\" data-end=\"3825\">Structural Models and Virtual Sensing<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3 data-start=\"3827\" data-end=\"3883\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Albert Sans';\"><strong data-start=\"3831\" data-end=\"3883\">Integration of FEM models with experimental data.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Albert Sans';\"><strong data-start=\"3831\" data-end=\"3883\"><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3885\" data-end=\"4092\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">As part of the project, <strong data-start=\"3909\" data-end=\"3981\">strategies for feeding Finite Element Method (FEM) structural models<\/strong> were developed, aimed at inverse analysis and laying the groundwork for future <strong data-start=\"4061\" data-end=\"4091\">advanced CBM methodologies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4094\" data-end=\"4300\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Based on sensor measurements, <strong data-start=\"4124\" data-end=\"4155\">dedicated Python-based APIs<\/strong> were implemented to transfer relevant information to the FEM model, developed using <strong data-start=\"4240\" data-end=\"4249\">FEMAP<\/strong>, enabling advanced structural analysis techniques.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4302\" data-end=\"4323\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">This approach allows:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"4325\" data-end=\"4679\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li data-start=\"4325\" data-end=\"4374\">\n<p data-start=\"4327\" data-end=\"4374\">Feeding FEM models with real experimental data.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4375\" data-end=\"4505\">\n<p data-start=\"4377\" data-end=\"4505\">Applying <strong data-start=\"4386\" data-end=\"4415\">Model Updating techniques<\/strong>, adjusting mechanical properties to align the model with the actual structural behaviour.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4506\" data-end=\"4679\">\n<p data-start=\"4508\" data-end=\"4679\">Implementing <strong data-start=\"4521\" data-end=\"4551\">Virtual Sensing techniques<\/strong>, based on modal expansion, to identify impacted or loaded areas and reconstruct the structural state in non-instrumented zones.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"4681\" data-end=\"4968\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sensor data therefore enables the progressive refinement of the FEM model, providing an advanced view of structural behaviour and establishing a robust basis for future analyses of <strong data-start=\"4862\" data-end=\"4927\">fatigue phenomena and other structural degradation mechanisms<\/strong>, once applied to full-scale ship models.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4681\" data-end=\"4968\">\n<h2 data-start=\"4975\" data-end=\"5027\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Albert Sans'; font-weight: normal;\"><strong data-start=\"4978\" data-end=\"5027\">System Validation and Methodological Advances<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"5029\" data-end=\"5226\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The project has defined and validated a <strong data-start=\"5069\" data-end=\"5169\">methodological framework for the integration of structural sensing systems with numerical models<\/strong>, paving the way for future applications on real vessels.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5228\" data-end=\"5428\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The developed methodologies allow FEM models to be fed with experimental data, enabling the application of <strong data-start=\"5335\" data-end=\"5384\">Model Updating and Virtual Sensing techniques<\/strong> for advanced structural behaviour analysis.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5430\" data-end=\"5462\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">This approach opens the door to:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"5464\" data-end=\"5696\">\n<li data-start=\"5464\" data-end=\"5521\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p data-start=\"5466\" data-end=\"5521\">Identifying different structural excitation mechanisms.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"5522\" data-end=\"5617\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p data-start=\"5524\" data-end=\"5617\">Assessing the global structural condition of the vessel under varying operational conditions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"5618\" data-end=\"5696\">\n<p data-start=\"5620\" data-end=\"5696\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Reducing the need for extensive instrumentation across the entire structure.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42945 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/tsisl.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Proyecto-SOST-INT-Modelo-creatividad-TSI-2-1024x589.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"869\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"5703\" data-end=\"5757\">\u00a0<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"5703\" data-end=\"5757\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Albert Sans';
