Torsional Vibration Monitoring in Emergency Diesel Generator Set

The Nuclear Power Plant Almaraz (CNA) has two Turbogenerator of 1.050 MW each and leads the availability ranking of Spanish power generation plants. The Safety along with efficiency of the plant drives the continuous improvement plans and update of the different systems. Within this framework, the installation and update of the protection systems and condition monitoring of all the critical equipment of the plant stands out.

Due to its operational history and criticality, in 2007 CNA proceeded to install a protection system (VM-600) of the linear vibrations in different locations of the diesel engines, turbochargers and generator of the tandem integrating the emergency diesel set GD2-4DG.

In 2017, in the framework of the update of the different systems, CNA requires TSI to increase the features of the VM-600 system, already installed for protection implementing a solution that allows continuous monitoring of the linear vibrations in different components of the diesel-generator set and the ‘’tensional state’’ of the crankshafts in both diesel engines integrating the tandem.
