Last May 26th was held the eighth edition of NAVALIA, the International Shipbuilding and Maritime Industry Exhibition of Vigo, whose editions are biannual and were not held since last 2018, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This edition of NAVALIA 2022 counted with the outstanding presence of HM the King of Spain, Felipe VI at the opening ceremony.

In this last edition, which took place on May 24, 25 and 26, the presence of international visitors has increased by 30%, and it has been baptized as the best edition since its birth in 2006. On this occasion, in addition to having a large number of national and international exhibitors, various technical activities were held for professionals in the sector.

Among these activities, it is worth mentioning the conferences and round tables sponsored by ROCKWOOL, on the importance of noise on board ships, the impact of acoustic insulation on the weight of the ship, consumption and emissions. The lectures were given by internationally recognized experts such as Mr. Søren Nyborg Rasmussen, Technical Director for Marine and Offshore of ROCKWOOL Group and Mr. Publio Beltrán, CEO and founder of TSI. -Técnicas y Servicios de Ingeniería-.

As is well known, ROCKWOOL is a multinational company specialized in providing insulation solutions for buildings, acoustic comfort in ships, energy efficiency and fire protection. ROCKWOOL’s insulation solutions are mainly based on rock wool, a durable material whose acoustic characteristics allow it to attenuate and absorb noise, thus meeting the required limits for the different spaces of the ship.

The conferences were divided into three blocks in which different aspects related to noise control on board ships were discussed. In the first of these blocks, a brief introduction of the conference agenda was given together with the background and professional experiences of both speakers.

The second block addressed the advantages of carrying out an acoustic evaluation of the ship in the initial stages of the project and its subsequent follow-up in the rest of the stages, up to the new and innovative materials and their characterization, to deal with acoustic problems on ships. Finally, and as a culmination of the conference, a Case Study on the vessel “Sea Cloud Spirit”, recently delivered by METAL SHIP & DOCKS as one of the quietest vessels of the moment, was exposed. This case allowed to show the attendees the benefits of acoustic studies in the initial phases of the projects and the correct selection of acoustic insulation.

This edition of NAVALIA had almost 400 exhibitors and 900 brands represented. More than 20,000 visitors attended the exhibition during the three days. The inauguration visit of HM the King of Spain, Felipe VI, was especially outstanding. It should be noted that 60% of the exhibitors present at this edition have already booked their participation for the next edition in 2024, which will be held from May 21 to 23, 2024.

TSI would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Ceferino Ron for the FINE Award for his brilliant professional career. An excellent professional and a better person. Congratulations Chief.
